WARRI – Tamuno Danagogo, Minister of Sports and Chairman, National Sports Commission, on Saturday warned football administrators against tampering with the nation’s football.
Danagogo, who was represented by Dr Bolaji Ojooba, made the call at the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) Extra-Ordinary General Assembly held in Warri, Delta State.
Danagogo urged them to put their house in order in the interest of the nation.
The minister observed that football was a major component of national unity and a product everyone cherished, so, it should be guarded jealously.
“Football is the only symbol of Nigeria’s unity and it would be criminal for anybody to tamper with it.
“It is a major component that every Nigerian identifies with, it is like religion, it is a product all of us cherish and we have to protect it,” he said. “If smaller countries like Togo, Republic of Benin and others can get it right, I see no reason why Nigeria cannot get it correctly,” he said.
The Director-General of the the National Sports Commission (NSC), Gbenga Elegbeleye, in a goodwill message wished the NFF a good deliberation.
Elegbeleye, who was represented by Allasan Yamut, said NSC recognised and identified with the football federation.
In attendance were the NFF President, Malam Aminu Maigari, Mike Umeh, Christopher Green, Shehu Adamu, Yusuf Ahmed.
Others are the NFF Director of Technical, Emmanuel Ikpeme, NFF Director of Marketing, Adama Idris and delegates from all the state football associations. (NAN)
