Kano – Kano State Task Force on Sanitation has threatened to sanction the Unguwa Uku Motor Park chapter of National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) over its non-compliance with sanitation laws.
Alhaji Ali Makoda, the state’s Commissioner of Environment, issued the warning on Friday, shortly after touring and inspecting Unguwa Uku Motor Park, Sharada Market and Kano State Hisbah Board.
The commissioner, who was represented by Alhaji Aliyu Garo, the Director of Administrative and General Services at the ministry, said that the task force had given NARTO a one-week deadline to ensure the cleanliness of park or face the law.
He said that the task force had earlier issued a notice to the management of the park, notifying it of the visit.
“But unfortunately, no any major actions were taken by the union, as we met the park in a dirty condition,’’ he said.
Makoda advised the union to clean up the park so as to prevent its members and passengers from contracting any disease.
He warned that if the management of the motor park failed to heed the warning and sanitise the park before the next visit of the committee, the management officers would be arraigned before the mobile sanitation court.
The task force also visited Sharada Market and Kano Hisbah Board, where the commissioner commended their managers for keeping the surroundings clean.
Makoda stressed that the residents faced a high risk of catching diseases whenever their environments were filthy.
“Therefore, there is the need for us to always clean the environment so as to avoid the outbreak of any disease”.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state government has fixed the last Friday of every month as the sanitation day for motor parks, markets offices and other business places.
