ABAKALIKKI – The people of Ihietutu Community in Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, have petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (I-G) over the murder of Mr Victor Ivoke a youth in the community.
Mr Paulinus Okoro, the chairman of the community, told newsmen in Abakaliki on Monday that they took the action because the suspected killers had not been arrested five months after the incident.
He alleged that Ivoke, 45, was murdered on April 17 by some youths in the community.
Okoro said: “We are worried that five months after the youths murdered Ivoke, the police was yet to arrest the killers.
“The matter was reported at Ivo Division of the Nigeria Police on that fateful date.
“Ivoke was attacked by eight dissident youths in our community without any justifiable provocation in April 17.
“The attack left the deceased with several machete cuts all over his body and he passed on in hospital that same day. [eap_ad_2] “Sadly, five months after the gruesome murder of this innocent youth, the police was yet to arrest the suspected murderers.’’
The chairman said the community decided to petition the I-G due to alleged `political manipulation’ of the case.
“The killers fled the community when the act was perpetrated and remained in hiding for over 4 months.
“Now all of them have returned and are boasting that nobody can arrest them and have even gone further to threaten the peace of the community.
“The police are yet to arrest them and this has confirmed our suspicion of political manipulation.
The chairman said that members of the community were law abiding citizens who believed in the rule of law and would not resort to self-help. (NAN) [eap_ad_3]
