Enugu – The Executive Chairman of Enugu Sports Club, Ben Etiaba, says the prestigious club needs a minimum of N100 million to meet its renovation and repositioning drive.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Enugu Sports Clubs was founded in 1929 by sports elite in the then Eastern region of the country.
Etiaba told NAN on Monday in Enugu that the proposed turn-around of the club’s complex and facilities would revive its competitive stance as one of the foremost sports club in the country.
He said that the executive had been appealing to corporate organisations and philanthropists in order to meet up with the target of the renovation within few months.
Etiaba, who is the club’s 26th executive chairman, said that his executive was poised to uplift the standard of the elitist sports organisation in the South-East and South South regions.
“It is part of my campaign promises. I intend to keep my five-point vision. So, the present executive of the club has embarked on an aggressive donation drive to meet the target.
“One of the major things to be done is installing solar system to provide alternative power to the club within and outside the perimeter fence of the complex.
“It will greatly support the electricity supply from the national grid; thus, the 24 hours power supply will create more relaxation and comfort for members and spectators watching competitions.
“Also, we intend to remodel the club’s Cinema Hall with new windows, befitting ceiling, grand lightening and full air conditioning system.
“The administration is also proposing to put in place a brand new ultra-modern kitchen and catering service in the complex.
“While an African-style bush bar to cater for unique traditional culinary will come up in matter of weeks,’’ he said.
According to him, a modern club house will equally be put in place by remodeling the existing one and other sports facilities will also be given a state-of-the-art touch. (NAN)
