Yenagoa – The Police Command in Bayelsa says it has arrested a 24-year-old woman and a 19- year-old man for allegedly being involved in human trafficking.
The spokesman of the Command, DSP Asinim Butswat, said in a statement issued in Yenagoa on Wednesday that the suspects were arrested for trafficking two girls from the state to Burkina Faso.
He gave the names of the victims as Ebitari Godfrey (20) and Lucy Samuel (19), both from Ekowe Community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa.
“On July 11, one Edna Hezron ‘f’ 35 years reported a case of abduction against one Erica Wolo ‘f’ 24 years of Agudama Epie, Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
“Consequently, a team of policemen swung into action and arrested the suspects.
“The suspects are Erica Wolo, f, and Patrick John, m, who took Lucy Samuel and Ebitari Godfrey to one Madam Beauty, surname unknown, in Lagos, who trafficked the victims to Burkina Faso.”
Butswat stated that Ebitari Godfrey had escaped from her captors in Burkina Faso to the Nigerian Embassy and was repatriated to Nigeria.
He said that the second victim had also escaped and that efforts were ongoing to repatriate her and also to arrest Madam Beauty. (NAN)
