Abuja – The Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Mr Abdullahi Candido, has pledged to commit 70 per cent of the council’s resources to the development of the education sector in the area.
Candido made the pledge at the Local Education Authority Primary School, Kunyami, FCT, on Thursday, where he donated school uniforms, books and other educational materials to the pupils.
He said his administration would leave a legacy of increased school attendance among children.
The chairman said that his administration would, in October, commence the construction of three blocks of classrooms and an office for the Head Teacher in October.
“This administration is committed to improving the standard of education in order to produce children who can compete favourably with their counterparts from other parts of the country.
“When we give our children quality education, we can go to bed with our eyes closed because when they come out, they will be good citizens and will be able to fend for themselves.
“The future of this country depends on the quality of education we give to our children.”
He, therefore, urged the people of Kunyami community and Gui ward to support the government and his administration.
Responding, Chief Silas Agoyi, the Village Head of Kunyami, expressed gratitude to AMAC for its support and in ensuring that children in the community attend school.
Agoyi also charged the pupils and the entire community to avail themselves of the opportunity given to them by the council.
He requested the chairman to extend same gesture to other communities for even development of the area.
In a remark, Mr Illesanmi Adekunle, the school Head Master, thanked the chairman for the donation.
Adekunle urged parents to ensure they enrolled their children in school for the next academic year.
Meanwhile, Mr Obiora Osija, a resident, commended the chairman for remembering the people in his administration.
“I am very happy that the chairman has promised to build new blocks of classrooms; I pray that God will bless him and give him wisdom.
Miss Mary Tewogbeade and Master Set Paul, students and beneficiaries of the items, thanked the chairman for the kind gesture.
“We are so glad we have new uniforms and books; God bless you Sir.”
