Lagos – A 32-year-old sales representative, Kelechi Anyanwu, who allegedly stole some pharmaceutical products worth N5.96 million from his employer, was on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Anyanwu, who resides at Kuje area of Abuja, is facing a three-count charge of stealing, cheating and breach of peace.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Raji Akeem, told the court that the accused committed the offences between year 2013 and June 2017 at May & Baker Nigeria Plc, Sapara Street, Ikeja.
Akeem alleged that the accused obtained pharmaceutical products from the company on the pretext of selling the products to customers and remitting the money into its account.
He said that the accused, who had no intention of remitting the money, converted it to his own personal use.
“When the management eventually discovered that the accused had stolen from them, they decided to confront him, but he denied it.
“The matter was reported to the police and the accused was arrested,’’ the prosecutor said.
Akeem said the offences contravened Sections 166, 287 and 323 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused risks three years imprisonment if found guilty of contravening Section 287.
The accused had pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr T.O Shomade, granted him bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Aug. 2 for mention.
