Vision 2020: NOTAP says synergy is key to achieving success

ABUJA – Mr Umar  Bindir, Director-General, National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), has stressed the need for synergy among stakeholders in the sector to realise Nigeria’s Vision 2020.

Bindir, who stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Abuja, said the call had become necessary because “Nigerians like working and operating in isolation.

“They will tell you, this is my ministry, this is my budget, these are my staff members, this is my laboratory.

“The EU came together because they realised that the only way they can combat other continents is by working together.

“So, NOTAP believes in synergy, creation of network, and partnership; this is the only way to go; in fact we cannot function very well without partnership,” Bindir stressed.

The Director-General said NOTAP had therefore gone into partnerships with different groups and organisations to achieve its mandate.

“We have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the committee of vice chancellors, and we are working with National Directorate of Employment in terms of using technology to create jobs. “We are working with research institutes and space agencies to ensure evolution of software and deployment of high technology into the Nigerian economy.

“The office is also working with the National Institute for Chemical Research and Technology to make sure that chemistry and chemical engineering penetrate our system.

“This synergy is in an attempt to create a very strong science technology and innovation culture in Nigeria; so you can see that the list is endless.

“My message to Nigerians is that ministries and all the different agencies in the country should work in synergy to make Nigeria great,” the NOTAP director-general said. (NAN)
