Emir tasks farmers, herdsmen on peaceful coexistence to boost economic development

ZARIA – Alhaji Shehu Idris, the Emir of Zazzau on Saturday advised farmers and herdsmen in the country to promote peaceful coexistence to enhance the growth of the nation.

The Emir, who stated this in his Eid Kabir message to the Muslim faithful in his palace in Zaria, said the appeal had become imperative owing to the persistent crises between farmers and herdsmen across in the country.

“I am calling on farmers to avoid cultivating grazing routes and herdsmen to keep away from farmlands, especially when crops are not harvested.

“People should avoid bush burning and indiscriminate felling of trees to curb the menace of desertification.

“I want to use this medium to also appeal to both Kaduna State and the local government councils to strive to protect forest reserves in the state.”

He urged all the tiers of government to redouble their efforts toward supporting both western and Islamic education to guarantee the proper upbringing of children.

He commended the Federal Government for effectively controlling the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease  in the country.

Idris appealed to the political class to support the electoral process by ensuring that the wishes of the electorates prevailed.

In Benue, the Chief Imam, Makurdi Central Mosque, Mallam Lawal Zakariyau advised Muslims in the country against the shedding of human blood.

Zakariyau, who gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Makurdi, pointed out that Islam was opposed to shedding of human blood for whatever reason.

He explained that it was for that reason that he stopped is servant Abraham from using his son, Ishmael for sacrificial purposes.

[eap_ad_1] “This is the whole essence of the celebration of Eid Kabir, to commemorate what transpired between Allah, Ibrahim and Ishmael in the days of old.

“This is to serve as an example to all mankind that shedding of blood is not acceptable to Allah,” he said.

He enjoined Muslims to use the period to pray for the conduct of credible elections that would produce the right leaders for Nigeria, who would utilise its huge resources to achieve economic growth.

He charged them to pray for the survival and the unity of the country, especially in the face of ongoing security challenges.

He advised them to fear Allah and shun all forms of vices, stressing that Allah was against such deviant conducts.

The cleric called on them to use the period to resolve their differences with one another so that they could book for themselves places in paradise.

He also harped on the imperative of alms giving, stressing that it was one of the pillars of the religion. (NAN)
