LAGOS – The Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) said that only top eight and four teams in male and female categories, respectively would play the finals of the ongoing National Club’s Team League.
The Technical Director of the NTTF, Anderson Bankole, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos.
“The eight tops teams in the male category will be sub-divided into two groups, the teams would play among themselves while the eventual top two will move to the final.
“Because we have more male entries, it simply means that they will play 15 matches each to garner the 30 points at stake.
“In the female category the teams would not be divided because only four teams would qualify for the finals after preliminaries, due to fewer entries.’’
Bankole said that at the end of each match, winners would earn two points which would be summed up to know the teams with the highest points. “We are preaching discipline and this is one of the ways to demonstrate it.
“Organisation of the league would be of international standard and we want to record huge success at the end of it all.’’
Bankole said that the federation was using the league to select two more players to represent the country at the forthcoming African Championships in Sudan.
“Four players are to represent Nigeria at the forthcoming African Championships, scheduled for Sudan in November.
“We already have two players selected, two more additional players would be selected from the league,’’ he said.
NAN reports that winners at the African Championship would represent Africa at the World Team Cup, slated for January in Dubai. (NAN) [eap_ad_3]
