JOS (Sundiata Post) – Despite a dusk to dawn curfew imposed on Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State by Governor Simon Lalong following repeated killings by persons suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, the people of the area have not known peace.
In the latest incident, no fewer than six people were murdered in Taagbe, a large village about 5km from Kent Academy and Miango Rest Home after Miango town in the local government.
The incident was said to have occurred at about 12am early Sunday morning.
According to sources, several houses were equally burnt down during the attack.
The incident followed reported threats of attacks in a community near Jos Wild Life Park, about 5km away from Taagbe, few hours earlier.
It equally follows a dusk to dawn curfew imposed on Bassa LGA by the state government to enable securities check incidences of attacks.
Reacting to the incident, The Plateau state government was carried out by assailants hiding among the villagers.
In a statement by its Director, Press and Public Affairs, Samuel Nanle, the government warned that “Any person or group of persons in villages and neighbourhoods identified to have been providing refuge and escape for these criminals, will not be spared the wrath of the law.”
The government in the statement vowed that it will not relent in its “current renewed efforts at identifying and prosecuting all those behind this heinous crime, which seeks to take the State back to the dark days of violent Conflicts.”
It however pleaded with all residents of “Bassa and its surrounding, to volunteer useful information that will lead to the apprehension of all the “criminals” behind “this sudden resurgence of terror.”
