Lago – An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday, sentenced a 35-year-old unemployed man, Gabriel Peter, to two years imprisonment for stealing two generator batteries, worth N70, 000.
Peter, whose address is not given, was first arraigned on Oct. 4, on a three-count charge bordering on burglary and stealing.
He pleaded guilty to all the counts but pleaded for leniency.
The convict told the court that he stole the items to enable him raise some money to help his family.
The magistrate sentenced Peter after listening to the facts of the case reviewed by the Prosecutor, Sgt. Oladejo Balogun.
Balogun had told the court that the accused committed the offences between July and Sept. 29, 2.00a.m, at No. 9B, Vincent St., off Massey Road, Lagos Island.
He said that Peter and others still at large unlawfully entered into the premises of ABBS hotel, broke the locks of the generator and stole two100 arms batteries, worth N70, 000.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 287, 308 (2) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Magistrate Mr N. A. Layemi, who handed down the verdict, however, gave the conviction an option of N100, 000 fine.
