Sango-Ota – The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Thursday advised school proprietors in Sango-Ota in Ogun to set up Road Safety Club to ensure safety of children on the roads.
Mr Adekunle Oguntoyinbo, the Sango-Ota Unit Commander of FRSC, gave the advice at the 2017 Safety Quiz Competition organised by the command in Ota.
According to him, there is need for youths to imbibe the safety tenets and culture against the current bad road usage to save lives and property.
Oguntoyinbo said that the competition was organised as part of the efforts to achieving the FRSC 2017 Corporate Strategic Goals in Ota and its environs.
”The FRSC, being the lead agency in road safety management in Nigeria, decided to reach out to youths as part of its efforts to catch them young and make them to embrace safety culture,’’ he said.
The unit commander also said that the quiz competition was aimed at educating and enlightening parents through the safety club members.
He said that 18 schools applied for the competition, but eight of them got to the final stage of the competition.
Oguntoyinbo listed the eight schools as Crescent Schools, Ota; Rock Foundation, Ota; Oasis Schools; The Bells Secondary School; Anointed Kiddies College, De-Dynamic Schools, D-Ivy College and The Ambassador College.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the D-Ivy College came first, while Anointed Kiddies College and The Ambassador College emerged second and third respectively.
NAN reports that the first position was got a GOTV decoder, the second received a wall clock, while the third position got umbrella.
Afolabi Ayomide, a student of D-Ivy College, described the competition as educative and competitive.
Ayomide advised the organiser that more of such competition should be organised in Ota and its environs.
Also, Obaniade Joseph, a student of Anointed Kiddies College, said that the competition was fair and should be regular.
Akinsete Tobi, a student of Ambassador College, appealed to the organiser that the competition should be organised throughout the country.
