ABUJA – A Senior Magistrates’ Court at Life Camp, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a man believed to be a scavenger, Awwal Abdullahi, to 60 days imprisonment for stealing iron rods from a construction site.
The 18-year-old, who lives at Karmo, Panteka, had pleaded guilty to the charges of joint act and theft.
The Senior Magistrate, Zubairu Mohammed, who handed down the verdict, however, gave the scavenger an option of N5, 000 fine. [eap_ad_2] Mohammed ordered that after the convict’s sentence or fine had been served, he should leave Abuja for his village in Kano State.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Simon Emmanuel had told the court that the theft was reported at the Life Camp Police Station on Oct. 9 by one Emmanuel Yunana, a security guard at Impresit Quarters, Abuja
He said the accused with two others still at large committed the offences.
He said the iron rods were recovered from the accused during police investigations.
The offences, Emmanuel said, contravened Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.(NAN ) [eap_ad_3]
