IBADAN — Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State on Monday described journalists as essential agents in the growth of democracy and promotion of good governance.
The governor stated this at his investiture as the Grand Patron of League of Veteran Journalists which took place at the state executive council chambers in Ibadan.
Ajimobi said journalists had been playing positive roles in many aspects of development in the state.
He said such roles were not only in impacting knowledge and information, but also in encouraging the people to participate in politics.
“My administration’s transformation agenda has been very successful because of the tremendous cooperation and support of journalists.
“It is a priceless privilege for me to be invested with the award of the Grand Patron and to be the first governor to be honoured by men of the league.
“For me, it is a honour that I will continue to cherish for the rest of my life,’’ the governor said.
Ajimobi assured the people of the state that his administration would continue to provide infrastructure, including potable water, quality education and health care.
He said the government had concluded arrangements for the establishment of three model schools in the state, adding that enrolment would commence in September.
The state chairman of the league, Alhaji Kola Animashaun, said the investiture of the governor as grand patron of the league was informed by his laudable achievements.
“This is the first time in the history of the league that we will be officially investing a serving governor as grand patron.’’
He said the transportation system of the Ajimobi administration had made life easier for commuters and had reduced traffic congestion. (NAN) |
