Abuja – A 23-year-old man, Benshak Markus, on Friday, appeared before a Karu Magistrates’ Court, Abuja for alleged theft of empty crates of soft drinks and burglary proof all valued N637,000.
Markus, who works with Specta Guards Security, Wuse Zone 2 Abuja, is facing a one-count charge of theft, to which he had pleaded not guilty.
The Police Prosecutor, Mahmud Lawal, told the court that Uche Alagbaoso of Plot MF 7 Karu site Abuja, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on Oct. 2.
Lawal said that the complainant employed the defendant as a security guard but he stole some empty crates of soft drinks valued N487,000 and burglary proof worth N150,000.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 289 of the Penal Code.
The judge, Oyenkan Folashade, admitted Markus to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with a surety in like sum.
Oyenkan said the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned the matter to Dec. 6 for hearing.
