ABEOKUTA – An Abeokuta Customary court sitting in Ake on Friday dissolved a four-year-old marriage between Esther Onakomaya and Seun Onakomaya over husband’s refusal to allow wife to work.
Esther, 25, who is resides at Dental Centre Street, Ago-Ipesha in Abeokuta, told the court that her husband was a selfish and violent man.
She said that her four-year marriage was blessed with only one issue, Damilola, two years old.
Esther also accused her husband of shying away from his responsibilities as man and also did not allow her to work.
“My husband does not want me to do any work; he wants me to stay at home as a full time house wife.
“I am tired of the suffering; he does take care of the family as he promised to do.”
“I see no point in remaining his wife. I am praying for divorce now to enable me to move on with my life, ’’she said.
Esther appealed to the court to grant her the custody of their only son.
Seun, 35, accepted the plea of his wife to dissolve their marriage, saying the dissolution would be a good development.
“When I met her, I told her I don’t want her to do a white-collar job so that she can really have time to take care of the family.
“She then accepted, but now she insisted on working after she had a child and started misbehaving in the house,” he told the court.

“May be my wife has seen another man she wants to marry that is why she called for divorce.
“Please separate us if that is her wish. All I just want her to do is to take good care of my son anywhere she is going.
The President of the Court, Mr Olalekan Akande, dissolved the marriage, saying that “it seems both parties are tired of each other”.
“The court has sent them home before today for possible reconciliation, but it did not work.
“To avoid bloodshed, the marriage needs to be dissolved,” he said.
He ordered Seun to pay N3,000 monthly, as feeding allowance, to Damilola and gave the custody of child to Esther for proper care. (NAN)
