AWKA – Ahead of the 2015 general elections, the Progressives People’s Alliance (PPA) Anambra State chapter, on Saturday in Awka, inaugurated caretaker committees to reposition the party.
The members are made up of five persons each from the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
The state committee, headed by Mr Emmanuel Uduonu, has the responsibility of supervising the local government and ward elections for substantive executives members in the state.
It also has Mr Mike Igwilo as the secretary.
Uduonu said at the event that the party had learnt from its previous mistakes and was ready to make necessary corrections in order to ensure landslide victory in coming elections.
He said that it would no longer be business as usual and urged members to sit up for the party to achieve success.
According to him, the party has a new ideology, which is doing things right and members voting by their conscience.
Earlier, while addressing the stakeholders, the leader of the party in Anambra, Mr Godwin Ezeemo, also said PPA had a new ideology which is to create a right mindset for the people.
He said that the new PPA would ensure fairness in its dealings and impart the right political culture in the minds of the electorate.
“Our target is to set the right mindset that politics must not be a do or die matter.
“People should act by their conviction of aspirants’ capability of quality representation and not by selling of their conscience,’’ he said.
He said there was a need to get the electoral system right in the country.
“We must not continue this way; the people must follow a party with ideology like the PPA to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
“A lot of people are disgruntled with what is happening in Nigeria today; PPA will contest every election in 2015.
“Politics is not about money, dehumanising people or a do or die game. It is all about sharing ideology of progress and positive change,’’ Ezeemo said.
He said that the party had not picked any presidential aspirant but was patiently waiting for its National Working Committee to come up with its decision.
Ezeemo said that he decided to stay in PPA even after failing in his governorship bid in the 2013 election in Anambra because he believed so much in the party.
“I will remain in this party until we get to the next level. We’ve been used and dumped, but not again; whatever the party will do now must be according to the constitution.
“We are not going to dance to the antics of selfish people again,’’ Ezeemo said.
The formation of the caretaker committee was based on the dissolution of PPA executives in some states.
The states affected include Anambra, Adamawa, and Oyo where they were dissolved by the party’s NWC for anti-party activities. (NAN)
