ABIDJAN – The Head, UN Operation in Cote d’Ivoire, Ms Aïchatou Mindaoudou, has assured the country’s independent electoral commission of continued support towards achieving credible election in 2015.
Mindaoudou made the pledge in Abidjan on Saturday while handing over an archive house for election documents to the commission.
She said that the archive house would provide the commission a place for storage of electoral documents and by extension boost its efficiency.
“This facility will also in the long run serve as a resource centre on Cote d’Ivoire’s electoral experience.
“As a mission, we will continue to make our support available to the commission in order to assist it perform efficiently.’’
The UN official said the mission was prepared to do its best in providing needed support for the commission to undertake its mandate.
Also speaking, the President of the commission, Mr Youssouf Bakayoko, said his team was already working toward the review of the voter register.
“We are also working toward setting up regional commissions across the country as a team, we are determined to deliver on our mandate.’’
Bakayoko urged Ivorians and political stakeholders in the country to always make inputs that would enable the commission to conduct a credible in 2015.
Cote d’Ivoire, which was hit by a post-election violence in 2010, had already scheduled its next presidential election for Oct. 2015. (NAN)
