ABUJA – Two first half goals by Offoegbu Abuchi on Monday gave Young Planners Football Club of Abuja a 2-0 victory over city rivals Camp United in the 2014 FCT Football League.
In the match played at the Area 3 Sports Complex in Abuja, Abuchi opened scores in the 13th minute.
He later doubled his team’s advantage in the 24th minutes through a penalty kick.
In another match played in the league competition, Diamond Football Academy beat Rock Football Club 1-0, with both teams giving a good account of themselves.
Temitope Babalola scored from a free kick in the 69th minute of the game to give his team victory.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) after the match, Martin Owobi, the coach of Diamond Academy said he was happy his team won the game
“It was a good match, even though I expected much from my players. But I am happy with what they gave me,’’ he said.
Coach Olaniyi Orimoloye of Rock FC, on his part, said his team was unfortunate to lose the game.
“We played below expectations, and we will make amends in our subsequent matches,’’ he said.
The coach however said his team would do better in subsequent matches.
“Now that we have qualified from this our last group match, the next stage is the knockout round, and I will prepare my players ahead of it,’’ he said.
NAN reports that the first round matches in the FCT Football League had kicked off on Aug. 27, with the final series of matches on Oct. 20.
Forty-eight clubs are participating in the league which holds annually.
The winning club will go on to represent the FCT at the zonal play-offs for qualification into the Division Three of the Nigeria Nation-Wide League (NNWL).(NAN)
