2 docked for allegedly hitting neighbour with iron rod

Sango-Ota(Ogun)   –     Two men, Ahmed Sani, and Sunday Alabi, were on Monday brought before an Ota Senior Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly hitting one of their neighbours, Kamarudeen Abdulsalam, with an iron rod.

Sani, 20, and Alabi, 21, whose addresses are unknown, are facing a two-count charge of assault and conspiracy.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Dec. 28, 2017 at about 1.00p.m at Ajegunle, Ota.

Gbesi said that the accused and complainant were neighbours when an argument ensued.

He said during the argument, the accused assaulted Abdulsalam with iron rod on the eye leading to severe injury.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 355 and 516 of the Criminal Code Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, granted bail to each of the accused in the sum of N150,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

Banwo said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and swear to an affidavit of means.

He also ordered that the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government and submit four recent passport photographs to the court.

The case was adjourned till March 1 for hearing.
