BENIN – The Edo State government on Wednesday restated its commitment to demolish all illegal structures, including corner shops in Benin City metropolis.
Mr Francis Evbuomwan, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, said this during the demolition of such structures in Government Reservation Area (GRA) in Benin.
Evbuomwan said the exercise was to address threats posed by illegal structures, as well as to ensure decent environment.
He frowned at the situation whereby people erect shops indiscriminately in urban centres.
The commissioner said that corner shops, canopies, caravans and other attached structures to original house plan, constitute illegal structure.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Edo government recently inaugurated a team to demolish illegal structures across Benin metropolis. (NAN)
