GOMBE – The Police command in Gombe on Wednesday said it had arrested two robbery suspects and two immigration officers for illegally collecting money from applicants to provide them with employment.
Briefing newsmen in Gombe, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, DSP Fwaje Atajiri, said the robbery suspects were arrested on Monday in Gombe metropolis while planning to go for operation.
He said the suspects, Gambo Usman and Abubakar Atiku were arrested with one AK 47, 27 live ammunitions, two a magazines and a knife.
He said on interrogation, the suspects said they used knife to threaten people if they would not use the gun.
Atajiri said investigations were ongoing and that the suspects would soon be charged to court.
On the immigration officers, he said they were arrested for collecting various amounts ranging from N50,000 to N120,000 from unsuspecting applicants.
The suspects, Clement Sulaiman, an Immigration Assistant I with the Nigeria Immigration Service, Borno and Saidu Loddo, an Immigration Assistant II, Gombe command, said they had refunded part of the money collected from their victims.
The PPRO advised applicants not to give money to anybody for employment purposes. (NAN)
