Lagos – An Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday remanded a 25-year-old man, Femi Olatunji, in prison, for allegedly stabbing one Fatai Taoreed, 35, to death.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.S. Salawu, ordered the remand of the accused, pending legal advice from the state Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Salawu adjourned the matter until March 8, for further hearing.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP C. Olagbayi, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on Jan. 15 at 4.20 p.m., at Aradagun Bus-stop in Badagry.
Olagbayi said that the accused used a broken bottle to stab the deceased on his right hand during a fight.
“The accused stabbed the victim when both of them engage in a fight; the bleeding as a result of the stabbing led to the death of the deceased,’’ he said.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 222 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section stipulates a death sentence for offenders.
