Lagos – A 43-year-old car dealer, Wasiu Ayandare, on Thursday appeared before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly obtaining fairly used vehicles worth N8.6 million under false pretenses.
Ayandare, whose residential address was not given, is standing trial on a three-count charge bordering on stealing and fraud.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Steven Molo, told the court that the accused committed the alleged offences at Exotic Auto and Real Estate Ltd, Plot 3010, Rafiu Babatunde St., Amuwo-Odofin Festac Town in Lagos, sometime in February 2017.
He said that the accused fraudulently obtained four fairly used vehicles popularly called Tokunbo cars from the complainant, Mr Jerry Eboh, under the pretext of selling them.
Molo alleged that the accused sold the vehicles but converted the said money to his personal use.
The prosecutor said that the vehicles included, a Honda Accord Coupe 2005 model, two Acura 3.2TL 2003, 2000 model and an Odyssey 2003 model, all valued at N8 million.
Molo also said that the accused allegedly stole an unregistered Honda Accura Legend worth N650, 000, belonging to the same complainant.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 287 (9), (10) and 314 (2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused denied the charges leveled against him.
The Magistrate, Mrs O. O. Oshin, granted him bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Oshin insisted that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case until April 2 for trial
