Group donates N6m items to orphans, widows

KANO –  An Islamic group,  Jama’atu Izalatul Bidi’a Wa’ikamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS), on Sunday donated food items and clothes worth N6 million to 500 orphans and widows in Kano.

Items distributed included 400 bags of rice and 1,000 sets of clothes.

Presenting the items to the beneficiaries, the Kano State Chairman of the group,  Dr Abdullah Pakistan, said the gesture was aimed at alleviating the sufferings of  orphans and widows.

“The programme,  which was initiated five years ago,  was designed to assist widows who were left without anybody to give them succour.

‘’The initiative  is also specifically aimed at making those young boys and girls who have lost their parents to have a sense of belonging in the society,’’ he said.

The chairman, who said beneficiaries included  victims of  insurgency, added: ‘’In Dakata area of Nasarawa Local Government, we have a family with a father killed by unknown gunmen leaving behind  25 small children.’’

He said the organisation was being supported by philanthropists who donate  food items  and new clothes for onward distribution to the needy.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Hafsatu Muhammad, thanked the organisation for initiating the programme. (NAN).
