Lagos – A 24-year-old unemployed man, Chinedu Odinma, who allegedly stole some soft drinks and other items valued at N13,000 was granted a N100,000 bail on Monday in Lagos.
An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court that gave the ruling also ordered the accused to provide two responsible sureties as part of his bail conditions.
The chief magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi said the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government (LASG).
The accused, whose address was not provided in court, is facing a charge of stealing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Benson Emuerhi had told the court that the accused committed the offence on Jan. 27at No. 42, Araromi Akinodu St., Ojodu in Lagos State.
He alleged that the accused broke into the shop of the complainant, Mrs Gift Michael, and stole the items.
“The accused broke-into the shop through its ceiling, burgled the shop of the complainant and carted away crate of soft drinks and other items valued at N13,000.
“The accused was apprehended by some security guards while he was trying to escape with the goods,” he said.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 307 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).
Osunsanmi adjourned the case until June 25 for trial.
