Yasin warns NURTW members against partisan politics

ABUJA – Alhaji Najeem Yasin, the President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), on Friday warned his members nationwide to shun partisan politics ahead of the 2015 elections.

Yasin made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

He said the association was not a political party and so, members should not allow themselves to be used as agents of destabilisation.

He said that members could belong to any party of their choice without using their party affiliation to divide the association.

“We have launched a war against thuggery in all our branches nationwide, because we are entering into the election year.

“We have warned them not to be used as tools for political destabilisation.

“But they must avoid partisan politics because this association is not a political party,’’ Yasin said.

Yasin said that it was believed generally that NURTW members were readily available to be used as political thugs by politicians during elections.

He warned that any member found wanting would be disciplined by the union.

On security, Yasin appealed to members nationwide to be security conscious in all their parks.

He urged members to alert security agents on any suspicious movement in and around any parks.

“There are detectors to check the people and goods coming into the park now.

“We are encouraging all our members to use the detectors to save the lives and property of the public.”
