All four African teams qualified for the Round of 16 by the completion of first round games at the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Nigeria had on Friday whipped Iraq 5-0 to join the group and make it a 100 per cent success for Africa which has four representatives in the 24-team competition.
Africa’s early qualifiers are African champions Cote d’Ivoire, Tunisia and Morocco.
Nigeria had lived up to its billing as one of the highest scoring sides at the competition with 14 goals scored in three matches while conceding four. [eap_ad_1]
In their final match, Nigeria had raced to a 4-0 lead at half-time with goals from Musa Muhammed through a penalty kick in the 4th minute.
Chidiebere Nwakali made it two in the 5th minute, while Musa Yahaya’s two goals in the 17th and 41st minutes rounded up the first half at 4-0 in favour of Nigeria.
Chigozi Obasi completed the route against the hapless Iraqis in the 90th minute.
The win gave Nigeria seven points from the three group matches, the only blemish being the 3-3 draw against Sweden on Tuesday, Oct. 22
Nigeria had earlier beaten defending champions Mexico 6-1 on Saturday, October 19.
