Police arrest fake appointment letters dealer in Gombe

By NAN

The Police Command in Gombe State said it arrested a dealer of fake letters of appointment of the Nigerian Prison Service.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Fwaje Atajiri, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe on Friday.

Atajiri said that the suspect was arrested on October 24 in Tumfure Area of Gombe metropolis while trying to sell the appointment letter to a job seeker.

According to him, the suspect has sold fake appointment letters to unsuspecting applicants in Plateau, Taraba and Adamawa and Bauchi.  “The suspect came to Gombe and was arrested with the appointment letters,” he said.

The spokesman said that the arrest of the suspect followed an intelligent report from the command’s community policing. Atajiri said that the suspect claimed to be an inspector in the service attached to the Numan Prison in Adamawa, stressing the suspect had no link with the Nigerian Prison Service.

“He only has a relation who served with the Nigerian Prisons Service, who has retired,” Atajiri said.

According to him, since the Commissioner of Police, Mr Kudu Nma, assumed duty in the state, the command had raided criminal hide-outs and reduced the rate of crime in the state.

He warned criminals to stay away from the state as the police would not compromise the prevailing peace in the state.

The suspect told NAN that he was an inspector and serving in Numan Prisons in Adamawa command.
