Ekeji’s book is an exemplary account of an iconic professional, says UniAbuja don

ABUJA – Prof. Emmanuel Ojeme, a Professor of Physical Education in the University of Abuja, has described Dr. Patrick Ekeji’s book on his experiences as an exemplary account of an iconic professional.

Ojeme made the remark at the public presentation of the book titled “Odyssey of a Green Eagle…from the Pitch to the Summit’’ on Tuesday in Abuja.

Ekeji is the immediate past Director-General of the National sports Commission (NSC), as well as being a former Green Eagles defender.

Ojeme, who reviewed the book, said readers would find the book very engaging and resourceful and well written by the author.

“It is very useful for everyone who wishes to find meaning and purpose in their lives, in the field of sports as well as in Physical Education,’’ he said.

Ojeme said Ekeji played his part in the development of sports in Nigeria as an athlete, coach, scholar, researcher, sports administrator, innovator and consultant.

“All of these are reflected in this book.’’

“His work as documented in this book will forever be a beacon for the younger generation as well as sports men and women who wish to make the best of their athletic career,’’ he said.

Gbenga Elegbeleye, Ekeji’s successor as NSC Director-General, in his remarks said Ekeji’s book is a must read for everyone.

“It is perhaps the first autobiography of a Nigerian sports personality, adding to other literary works on sports,” he said.

Ekeji, while speaking to newsmen later, said the book was conceptualised in such a way that it would keep remaining current due to his experiences.

“Those coming into sports administration will learn from it, while those who just want to read the book as a story will also find it interesting.

“Those who are interested in some specific areas will really enjoy it.

“For instance, in football, if you read between the lines, it is possible to begin to see how and why and we are where we are today and what we can possibly do to resolve these issues.

“All aspects of the book were very well thought out and the presentation was such that it is easy for everybody to understand,’’ he said.(NAN)
