PORT HARCOURT – Rep. Dakuku Peterside (APC-Rivers) said on Tuesday that the defection of the Speaker of the House of Representatives from PDP to APC was good for the nation’s democracy.
The Speaker, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, formally notified his colleagues of his defection on Tuesday at the plenary.
Peterside told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt that Tambuwal was free to join any party of his choice to actualise his dreams.
“It simply shows our democracy is maturing. Democracy is about freedom. Freedom to make a choice.
“The speaker has shown a lot of courage and made true the assertion that all politics is local,’’ he said.
The lawmaker said majority of the members of the house were solidly behind Tambuwal.
“Most members of the house who have been observing political developments in the country are solidly behind him (Tambuwal),’’ he said. (NAN)
