Lagos – A 31-year-old sales representative, Bamidele Fadipe, who allegedly stole N534,750 from the sales proceeds of his employer, appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused, who resides at 1, Amose St., Meiran, a suburb of Lagos, is being tried for stealing.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offence was committed between May 5 and May 28 at 5, Ladipo Oluwole St., Ikeja, Lagos.
Ogu said the stealing was discovered from the sales record of the accused after he had disappeared from the company.
“The accused works with Multi-pro Consumer Products Limited, and was given some cartons of Indomie Noodles to be sold to their various customers.
“He, however, removed the sum of N534,750 from the proceeds of the sales and left the company unannounced,” he said.
Ogu also alleged that the accused switched off his mobile phone and that all efforts to locate him failed.
“He was later seen at Abule Egba, Lagos, by one of the staff of the company, who raised an alarm; he was then apprehended with the help of some passers-by,” he added.
The offence, the prosecutor said, contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
NAN reports that the accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr J. A. Adegun, granted the accused a bail of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adegun, thereafter, adjourned the case until July 2 for mention.
