Jos –  The United Nations Children’s Education Fund (UNICEF) says it is engaging relevant stakeholders to discuss child survival, basic education, social policy and gender equality, among other issues.
The fund said this at a meeting tagged “2018 Mid-Year Review Meeting”, organised by its Bauchi Field Office on Monday in Jos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Bauchi Field Office overseas six states of Bauchi, Adamawa, Gombe, Taraba, Jigawa and Plateau.
Welcoming the participants, Mr Bahnu Pathak, the Chief of Bauchi UNICEF Field Office, said the essence of the meeting was to review the successes achieved and challenges that hindered positive impact in the various states in the last six months.
“Basically, we are here to identify achievements recorded by the key programmes in various states in the last six months.
“Also, we are to identify the constraints that militated against the planned results and the lessons learnt.
“We are to also here to project our programme priorities for 2019, to enable states capture it in their budgets for easy release of counterpart funds,” he said.
Pathak, who lamented the poor state of the Nigerian child in almost all spheres of existence, urged implementing partners to step up their game in ameliorating the suffering of children and women in the society.
He said that other key sectors to be considered include child protection, nutrition, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), and health.
