Ikeja – Two unemployed men: Basit Adeleye and Sunday Onifade, on Monday, confessed to Chief Magistrate F.F. George of an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, in Lagos, that they stolen cash and two phones valued at N47,000.
Consequently, the magistrate ordered their remand at the Kirikiri Prisons until July 7, for a review of facts and sentencing.
Adeleye, 18, a resident of Ifo in Ogun; and Onifade, 20, who resides at Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos SAtate, were arraigned on a two- count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awase, the accused committed the offences on June 16 at Awonusi St., Alagbado, near Lagos.
He told the court that the accused conspired to steal two phones valued at N40,000 including N7, 000 cash belonging to Mrs Bola Balogun.
Awase said that the accused entered the complainant’s shop while she was sleeping and took her property.
“The duo sneaked into the complainant’s shop, unplugged the two phones she was charging from the sockets and also took her money.
“But luck ran against them as the complainant suddenly woke up and raised an alarm.
“People pursued them, arrested them before and handed them over to the police,” the prosecutor said.
He said the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that while Section 287 prescribes three years jail term as penalty for stealing, Section 411 attracts two years imprisonment for conspiracy if offender is found guilty of the offence.
