4 men docked over alleged theft of items worth N1.65m

Abuja   –    The Police on Thursday arraigned four security men in a Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing items worth N1. 65million.‎

The men: Hassan Bako, Peter Patrick, Paul Bawa, and Hosea Mamuda, all security men were docked over charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, house-breaking and theft by servant.

The prosecutor, Urom Out, told the court that one Emmanuel Onimisi of Efab Estate, Life Camp, Abuja, returned from work on July 3 and discovered his house had been burgled.‎

‎He said gold jewelry valued at N1, 300, 000; $100, a laptop valued at N250, 000, a hard drive valued at N40, 000, and perfume valued at N60, 000 were stolen.

Otu added that the said items summed up to N1, 650, 000.

The prosecutor said police investigations revealed that Bako, the complainant’s security guard had spare keys to the house and conspired with the other defendants to steal.

He said the offences contravened Sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The defendants pleaded not guilty.

The judge, Abdulwahab Mohammed, granted the defendants N500, 000 bail each, with one surety each in like sum, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the matter until Aug. 20 for hearing.
