Nguru (Yobe) – Senate leader Ahmad Lawan on Thursday inaugurated a dialysis centre and spectrophotomy laboratory worth about N70 million at the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, Yobe.
Lawan said that the projects were executed under the 2017 Zonal intervention Programme for Yobe North Senatorial district.
According to him, the projects became necessary due to high rate of kidney-related diseases in the area.
“These projects have brought accessible and affordable treatment to the doorsteps of people inflicted with this ailment both within and outside the constituency.
“Yobe North Senatorial zone has never enjoyed such tremendous support from the Federal Government in the last 16 years under the previous administrations except now.”
According to the legislator, a water treatment plant that was abandoned five years ago had also been completed to supply water to the centre.
He said that Federal Ministry of Health had also embarked on an investigation of the remote causes and other factors responsible for the high prevalence of the disease in the area.
Lawan said additional projects worth over N160 million had been earmarked for execution at the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, under the 2018 Zonal Intervention Programme.
The senator assured the people of more democratic dividends under the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.
“It, therefore, becomes necessary for us the people of Yobe North to return this administration in the next dispensation for sustainability and more democratic dividends,” Lawan said.
Dr Abubakar Mohammed, the Chief Medical Director of the centre, commended Lawan for attracting such critical projects.
He said that the dialysis centre and laboratory would facilitate investigation and treatment of kidney patients coming to the hospital.
