Ado-Ekiti – The police, on Monday, arraigned a 31-year-old woman, Ibukun Okunlola, before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for alleged fraud.
The defendant, who is of no fixed address, is standing trial on one-count charge of fraud.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Caleb Leranmo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 11, 2017 at Adebayo area in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant fraudulently collected a handbag valued N5,000, some clothes valued N19,000 belonging to one Daramola Bukola with intent to permanently deprive her of the materials.
Leranmo said that the offence contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor asked the court for adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
Her counsel, Mr Emmanuel Sunmonu, urged the court to grant her bail with a promise that she would not jump bail.
The magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Ajibade, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N5,000 with one surety in like sum.
Ajibade adjourned the case until Aug. 28 for hearing.
