Abuja, – A 24-year-old machine operator, Kefas Tochi, was on Friday arraigned in a Wuse Zone 6 Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, over alleged theft of a drum of diesel and other items valued at N2.4 million.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of theft and joint act levelled against him.
The prosecutor, Joshua Ayanna, told the court that one Joshua Adejoh, of Ministers’ Quarters, Mabushi, Abuja, on July 3, reported the matter to the Police Special Tactical Squad office.
The prosecutor said that the complainant on that date discovered that the defendant, who worked for him, and five others at large conspired and some items.
He listed the stolen items as: a drum of diesel, 25 litres of black oil, 500 bags of cement and a 20ft container, all valued at N2.4 million.
He said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 287 and 97 of the Penal Code.
The Magistrate, Mr Abdulmajid Oniyangi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N400,000, with two sureties in like sum and
adjourned the case until Sept.10 for hearing.
