Ikeja – A 35-year-old driver, Shina Abiala, was on Wednesday in Lagos brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing loaves of bread valued N752,000.
According to the Prosecutor, Sgt. Kenrich Nomayo, the accused committed the offence on Aug. 22 at Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos.
He said that the accused, who is also a sales representative of the company, stole loaves of bread of different sizes valued at N752,000, property of Food Concept Pioneer Ltd.
“The accused was asked to deliver various sizes of bread to a customer in Ogun.
“He, however, diverted the supply to another customer and converted the proceeds which was supposed to be paid into the company’s account to his own personal use.
“The customer in Ogun called the company to know why she was yet to get her supply after paying for the goods.
“When the accused was questioned, he confessed and was immediately handed over to the police, ‘’ the prosecutor said.
The offence contravened Section 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes seven years jail term for stealing.
Abiala, whose residential address is unknown, entered a `not-guilty’ plea to the charge leveled against him.
Magistrate Mrs T. O. Ojo granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties as part of the bail conditions.
Ojo said the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
