ABUJA - A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State, Hon. Shamsudeen Abdullahi, on Monday said only the people’s would prevail in the 2015 elections.
Abdullahi told newsmen in Abuja when he returned his nomination form to the party’s national secretariat that none of the aspirants in the race had been anointed by anyone.
“No one has endorsed anybody. It is only the good people of the state that will decide who becomes the next Kaduna State Governor.
“Thank God I know we are with the people and we are out to serve the people. That is the bottom line in this race,’’ he said.
The aspirant said reports that Gen. Mohammadu Buhari endorsed former FCT Minister, Malam Nasir El-Rufa’i, as the next governor of Kaduna state were untrue.
“The report is untrue. Gen. Buhari has no `anointed’ candidate. He only raised El-Rufa’i’s hand during his declaration. This is not the same as endorsing him,’’ he said.
Abdullahi however promised to move the state forward in terms of development, should he win the governorship race.
He pleaded that the party should stick to its promise of providing a level-playing ground for all aspirants.
“I believe if I’m given the opportunity at the party’s primary, I will be able to transform Kaduna state with the collective support of all the people.
“The state used to be the centre of the Northern region. It was a melting pot where people from the South and North used to meet, ever before Abuja came to be.
“My vision is to now have a united Kaduna and a developed Kaduna. I intend to drive development in the area of physical infrastructure and social aspects.
“I will appeal for fairness. Like the party’s National Organising Secretary (Sen. Osita Izunaso) said, democracy starts from within the internal organs of the party.
“It is internal democracy that promotes true democracy. We want all the contestants to have a level-playing ground. That is what we are asking for and let the people decide,” Abdullahi said.
Earlier, Izunaso had assured the lawmaker that the party would provide a rancour-free atmosphere for all aspirants contesting on the party’s platform.
“We assure you that everything will be done to guarantee a level-playing ground for all aspirants during the primary,’’ he said.(NAN)
