Lagos – A 35-year-old unemployed, Olabode Akanbi, on Monday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged theft of electric cable valued at N40,000.
Akanbi, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and causing breach of peace.
The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 and two sureties in like sum.
Kubeinje insisted that the surety must be gainfully employed.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, had earlier told the court that the accused committed the offences on Oct. 21, at Express Primary School premises, Ikosi, Ketu, a Lagos suburb.
Ihiehie said the accused was brought to Ketu Police Station with the stolen cable and a phone by operatives of the Lagos Neighbourhood Security Corps of Isheri Health Care Centre (LNSC), Olowora.
He said Azeez Sanni, who led the team of LNSC told the police that they received a call from one Alfa (an Islamic cleric) of the school that three area boys were in the school compound cutting off cable from the school.
The prosecutor said two suspects ran away while the third one was caught with the cable, cutlass, hemp, a Nokia phone, some clothes and a bag.
The offences contravened Sections 168 (d) 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The case was adjourned until Dec. 4 for further hearing.
