ADO-EKITI -The indiscriminate citing of filling stations in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital has become an issue of concern and threat to the residents.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that one of the residents, Mr Seye Alesinloye accused government officials of connivance in the illegal citing of the filling stations.
Alesinloye blamed the construction of filling stations in illegal areas on some government officials, who were responsible for approving sites for businesses.
“There are some departments responsible for giving approval for the construction of such buildings, but for one reason or the other, we just realised that filling stations continue to spring up everywhere.
“It has continued like that with no one controlling the sites, you can imagine a filling station between a school and residential building, it is dangerous and there is no one to control them. [eap_ad_2] “We are therefore appealing to the department or ministry responsible to ensure that structures are erected in line with the Town Planning regulation.
“How will approval be given to owners of petrol stations without considering the environmental risk it poses?
According to him, “the town planning regulatory guidelines stipulates that a minimum distance of 50 metres should be maintained between petrol stations and residential buildings.’’
He said that 100 meters should be maintained for vulnerable facilities such as hospital, industry and schools.
“Coordinator of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Mr Adeleke Ajani said the agency had received series of complaint as regard citing of petrol station in odd places.
Ajani said that the complaints were being looked into for necessary action. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
