ABUJA – The Sports Minister, Tammy Danagogo, on Sunday commended the Super Eagles for exhibiting a never-say-die spirit in their 2015 African Nations Cup qualifier against Congo in Pointe Noire on Saturday.
Danagogo, in a statement by Patrick Omorodion, his Special Assistant on Media, said the victory has now revived the Eagles’ hopes.
“It has revived the hopes of qualifying for the Nations Cup and defending the crown they won about two years ago in South Africa,’’ he said.
The Eagles had won 2-0 to earn the maximum three points and move into second place on the four-team table.
“I am elated by the victory of the Eagles in far-away Pointe Noire and I want to commend them for their determination and belief in themselves that they can do it.
“I had told Nigerians never to lose hope in the team but support them until the very last match,’’ the minister who is also the Chairman, National Sports Commission (NSC), said.
He however urged for more support for the team as the qualification campaign comes to a close on Wednesday.
“I want to appeal to Nigerians to come out en masse for the last match in Uyo on Wednesday and cheer the team to victory against South Africa so as to finally seal the qualification and ensure that Nigeria is represented at the Nations Cup,” Danagogo said.(NAN)
