LAGOS – Six secondary schools have emerged zonal winners of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) quiz competition, instituted to enhance Nigerian youths awareness on capital market and general investments.
The six schools, according to a release by SEC are Government Secondary School, Akim Calabar, Cross Rivers State, Community Secondary School, Okposhi, Ebonyi and Bibo-Oluwa Academy, Ilesha, Osun.
The others are Chapel Secondary School, Tanke, Kwara, Abdulrasheed Raji Special School, Sokoto and Federal Government College, Azaure, Bauchi State.
According to the commission, the schools will participate in the grand final of the competition scheduled for Abuja on Nov. 26.
It said that the zonal competition was in the second elimination stage where the winning schools from states meet others from the geopolitical zones to produce champions from the six zones.
SEC said that the grand final of the competition scheduled for Abuja would host all the zonal champions in commission’s continuous investment education programme packaged to stimulate an ensuring culture of saving and investing in the nation’s capital market.
“The national schools quiz competition is part of the commission’s strategies at bringing the capital market closer to the people as well as developing the market.
“SEC as the apex regulator of the Nigerian capital market performs the dual roles of market regulation and development and had in 2004 infused capital market studies into six subjects of the senior secondary schools nationwide,” it said. (NAN)
