BAUCHI – The Bauchi State Government has allocated 2,000 hectares of land to two electricity companies for the establishment of 100 megawatt power station in the state.
The Deputy Governor of the state, Alhaji Sangir Saleh, stated this on Tuesday in Bauchi while receiving managements of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and Nigeria Solar Capital Partners in his office.
Saleh, who also oversees the Ministry of Environment, said the land is situated at Zongoro Village in Ganjuwa Local Government Area.
He said that a sub-station of the National Grid had been identified along Bauchi-Gombe Road for the take-off of the project.
Saleh said residents of Zongoro Village and the surrounding villages had been enlightened through traditional rulers and the local government on the project.
He said the state government would ensure provision of adequate security for the execution of the project, and that TCN had conducted technical survey on the land.
Mr Joel Abraham, who represented Nigeria Solar Capital Partners, said that it took the company three years to make significant progress on the project.
Abraham said that when completed, the project would be the largest in Sub-Saharan African.
He gave the assurance that the host communities would be involved in the construction work and enjoy the facility.
Mr Rabui Bako, who represented the TCN, said the company had done over 50 per cent of the feasibility study.
He called on the state government to support TCN in executing the project.
Bako said the company was working to upgrade Power Transmission Lines in the state to ensure adequate transmission of electricity to customers. (NAN)
