OWERRI – The Permanent Secretary in Imo Ministry of Works, Chief George Eche, on Wednesday warned staff against unethical conducts and nonchalant approach in discharging their duties.
Eche, who gave the warning in his maiden address to workers in the ministry after assuming duties, said workers with negative attitude to work would be shown the way out.
“Days are gone when people see the civil service as a dumping ground and hiding zone for lazy and redundant people,’’ he said.
He said the state government wants result for the huge amount of money spent on workers, stressing that efficiency and productivity must be their driving force.
The permanent secretary ordered the opening of attendance register in all units, adding that constant check would be carried to fish out the culprits.
Eche also called on workers to abide by the dress code initiated by Gov. Rochas Okorocha, noting that effort would be made to improve on the welfare of workers.
The representative of Nigeria Labour Congress, Mr Uzoma Kamalu, commended Eche for creating a platform for the workers to interact with him.
Kamalu said before now workers in the ministry were been owed overtime, promotion arrears for junior workers, among others.
Contributing, Mr Prince Ukado , the Director of Administration and Finance, thanked the permanent secretary for sinking a borehole in the ministry within one week of his assumption of duties. (NAN)
