As the December date for the presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress draws near, the Senator representing Kano South Senatorial District, Kabiru Gaya, Thursday appealed to Former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari; and Former Vice – President, Atiku Abubakar, to step down for Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, as the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the 2015 general election.
Gaya, a former governor of Kano State, stated this in an interview with journalists in Abuja.
He contended that being an elder statesman, and since the duo of Buhari and Atiku are elder statesmen, they should leave the ticket for a younger and more vibrant man like Kwankwaso to fly.
For Gaya, Kwankwaso’s achievement as Kano governor was enough proof that he would turn around the economy of the country if elected president, noting that the Kano governor is currently spending 75 percent of the state’s budget on capital projects and 25 percent on recurrent expenditure.
He said: “I am not trying to introduce politics into the situation but we have to tell ourselves the truth. Governor Kwankwaso was a minister of Defence, and now a serving governor. He was a legislator being a deputy speaker of the House of Representatives.
“He was also Special Adviser to the President on Dafur. He was a member of the Niger Delta Development Commission, hence he has the credentials. He is a young man too. He can work for 18 hours a day.
“I believe that all our elders and leaders in the APC would support him. If you look at the situation in other countries, their citizens are going for young people to become their president.
“Bill Clinton and Barack Obama for instance were young men who became president having youthful hair but grew grey hair in power because of mainly the external problems that their country was facing”, Gaya said. (DailyPost)
