ABUJA – The Federal Ministry of Information, has condoled with former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana, over the death of his mother, Madam Felicia Fatima Gana.
Madam Felicia died at the age of 95.
The Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku said that the death of Gana’s mother was not just a personal loss but a collective one.
The delegation from the ministry, who visited Prof. Gana at his Abuja residence, includes the Permanent Secretary, Dr Yemi Folashade Esan and the directors.
“You left a good record in the Federal Ministry of Information, both in terms of the leadership and the human relations you provided.
“We were all very aggrieved and we felt that the passage of Mama was not just your loss but our collective loss,” he said.
Maku described the deceased as an exemplary mother who raised one of Nigeria’s best public servants in the person of Prof. Gana and his siblings.
The minister said that though the death of mama was a huge loss, the family should be consoled by the fact that she lived a life of devotion to God and service to humanity.
Maku therefore urged Prof. Gana to be consoled and strengthened by the long life she lived and the comfort and support she provided.
He prayed God to comfort the family and the entire Nupe chiefdom and give them the fortitude to bear the loss.
Prof. Jerry Gana thanked the management of the ministry for the condolence visit, saying the gesture had confirmed that “my public service home is the ministry of information”.
He described the Ministry of Information as crucial to the sustenance of democracy in the country.
“The Ministry of Information is very vital; unless you tell the people what the government has done, the citizens may find it difficult to appreciate efforts made by government.
“I must say we thank God that you have both the determination and the language to really project what is happening now,” he said. (NAN)
