Abuja- An Area Court in Lugbe, Abuja, on Friday sentenced a 25-year old applicant, Samuel Aboji, to three months imprisonment for stealing cell phone.
The judge, Gambo Garba, who handed down the sentence, however, gave Samuel an option to pay N5,000 fine.
Garba warned the convict to desist from committing crime, saying that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others.
Aboji, of Agatu Local Government Area of Benue, had pleaded guilty to the one count-charge of theft.
He, however, pleaded with the judge to tamper justice with mercy.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Lliyua Maji, told the court that Reuben John of Gosa Toge on Airport road reported the theft at Iddo Police Station, Abuja, on Nov. 25.
Maji said that the complainant caught Samuel with his two-SIM cell phone, valued N14,000 and N900 cash.
He added that the offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
